MOONSTONES - October 2006
"Dream Stone" Formed from Moonlight
All moonstones display adularescense (the soft billowy look), while
some will also display a cat's eye or a star. You absolutely must see
this beautiful gem to appreciate the beauty!
Moonstones were originally discovered in Sri Lanka, though they can
be found throughout the world. If you're truly lucky, one might even
be in your back yard....
The perceived high-end moonstones are transparent, have intense color,
and are usually large in size. Hofmeister Personal Jewelers has a huge
variety of moonstones in many colors for you to select what you like best,
or we'll help you find the perfect match for your mate.
The ancient Greeks called moonstones "selenite," after Selene, their
goddess of the moon. Many couples have fallen in love by the light of the
moon. Want to be romantic? Come in and pick a beauty for your beauty and
remind her of that moment when you first fell in love.
The ancient Roman's thought the moonstone was formed from moonlight.
I heard they drank a lot too and they thought that wearing an Amethyst would
keep you sober no matter how much you drank...and that civilization fell
how long ago?
In India the orange moonstone is called "dream stone" and is thought
to promote good dreams. I don't know about you but I could always use a
great dream. The days are much happier when you've had a great night
sleep.
Some women sew moonstones into their clothing, believing the moonstone
to be a sign of fertility. I'm not sure that I would recommend this approach
for everyone; but if you are thinking of seeing a Fertility Expert this
could be a VERY inexpensive solution...I should say, by no way am I
guaranteeing the results.
Moonstones became very popular in the Art Nouveau Period because of Rene
Lalique's use of them in his jewelry. If you're not sure who Rene is, let me
tell you, he did some amazing work. Maybe you could do something amazing too
if you owned a Moonstone!
